Taste of Our Town benefits local elite water skiers from Winter Haven who were selected for the USA Water Ski Show Team to compete at the IWWF Show Ski World Championships Sept 7th – 9th in Huntsville, Ontario Canada. Our passion for our community food, wine, history and culture, inspired us to bring this event “Taste of Our Town” to the city we love so much and call home. Come share a “taste” of our city with locals and visitors alike.
A DASH OF HISTORY
Winter Haven has always held a rich history with water skiers and has played a major role in the development and growth of water skiing as a sport. It is connected to 10 members of the Water Ski Hall of Fame, more than any other city in the world. These include Dick Pope, Sr., Dick Pope, Jr., and Ricky McCormick. George A. “Banana George” Blair, who still holds several water ski world records, was first introduced to the sport while visiting Winter Haven in the 1950s. Today, several successful ski schools for water skiing make their home here. Everyday, all year round, water skiers can be seen practicing their sport on the lakes around town.
OUR ROAD TO WORLDS
With your attendance ($15), know that you are supporting these local athletes. Every single dollar helps give them the training, coaching, and other resources they need to achieve their dream of representing our country at the 2018 World Show Ski Tournament.
